"The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain . . . When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."
Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

Of desire, you've carted off
The lion's share of mine
By your sudden withdrawal
And long absence.
I'm waiting for eternity to begin
It would seem.
I did not think the sere mellower
Would come for me so soon.
I thought we had more time--
More time to be foolish,
More time to be reckless,
To be wide-eyed and dreaming
Of brighter destinies.
The overlook has its own monotony,
Once you've become accustomed to the view.
